Our Area.
Although there are no specific geographical
boundaries limiting our promotion and
encouragement of enterprise, our main area of
operation is the central southern part of Liverpool
(including but not exclusively so the communities of
Aigburth, Allerton, Belle Vale, Childwall, City Centre,
,Cressington, Dingle, Garston, Hunts Cross, Mossley
Hill, Netherley, Speke, Toxteth and Woolton).
Home to some 88,000 people, South Liverpool is an
area of contrasts with some communities facing
significant social and economic challenges whilst
others enjoy relative affluence.
Dingle is situated on the River Mersey and encompasses the old established industrial areas which include many successful business
operating predominantly in the small engineering sector. The residential areas are home to approximately 13,000 people.
Toxteth is predominantly residential and is home to approximately 16,000 people. The area also includes the recently constructed
commercial areas around Upper Parliament Street.
Aigburth & Cressington are residential areas with some small businesses and are home to approximately 27,000 people.
The City Centre, although obviously mainly a commercial centre, contains over 1500 homes which are located both in the heart of the city and on its outskirts.
Garston is made up of 2 distinct areas 'Garston Under The Bridge' and Garston Village and is home to approximately 12,000 people. The
area is currently undergoing major residential redevelopment. The area includes Garston Docks and its associated industrial estates.
Speke is dominated by an outer city estate some 8 miles from Liverpool City Centre and is home to approximately 10,000 people. The
wider area of Speke includes Liverpool John Lennon Airport and major industrial and commercial areas including Estuary Commerce
Park, Liverpool International Business Park, Speke Boulevard Industrial Estate. Large employers such as Novartis Vaccines, Ford/Jaguar
and Halifax Bank of Scotland are based in or close by Speke. The area also includes the old Liverpool Airport complex which has been
redeveloped to create a Marriot Hotel, a David Lloyd Leisure Centre and a base for Littlewoods Home Shopping.
In the centre of Speke is the Parklands Complex: this £25 million complex contains a new secondary school, library one stop shop,
community centre, adult learning facilities and refurbished leisure centre including a swimming pool. A new district shopping centre has
also recently been completed.
Belle Vale & Netherley are predominantly residential areas bounded on 3 sides by green belt and are home to approximately 18,000
people. The area has seen some recent regeneration successes including a £14 million housing development in conjunction with
Liverpool Housing Action Trust and a £2 million multi-resource Millennium Centre which includes a library and Drop in Study Centre.
